Art Journal Emporium - Week in Review #9 March 10 2015, 0 Comments

I’m late! I know. I’m sorry. I’ve been sick. But, whilst I slumbered, there was some amazing stuff going on in the Emporium.

The Daily Art Dose

Penny’s mini-masterpiece has a great message for everyone to remember. Love the colors on this one!

I also really liked Cindy’s version of ‘lucky.’ The colors work so wonderfully together.

March Monthly

I love these surprise mini workshops that show up in the Emporium.

I also love Marilyn’s traditional Gaelic blessing in her Irish themed page.

I can’t wait to see what everyone else has planned for this workshop.

Tangerine Telescope

Have you gotten your zine yet?  What have you been doing with them?  Personally, I love the inclusion of the ‘one to play on.’

New Digital Tutorial

Lou Anne did a fabulous job at applying the techniques in the video to create this layout.

Book Club

We’re still going strong with our first title and a second book has been announced to start in April. If you haven’t been in the book club area in a while, you should really check it out. More inspiration than you can shake a stick at.

A great example is Dianne’s layout. It looks fantastic.

If you are interested in seeing more artwork from the Art Journal Emporium, search out our tags on social media: #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose. If you post your creations, make sure to tag them!

See you all soon!

Art Journal Emporium – Month in Review (February 2015) February 28 2015, 1 Comment

February has flown by, hasn’t it? The Emporium members have been busy with all kinds of projects this month…take a look.

What we worked on this month:

We’re doing a postcard swap! Entries for that are due March 5th. We also have started a monthly themed (I love themed things, there is one less variable to think about) ATC swap. Those are due in by the 15th of March. I can’t wait to see what we’ve done.

The Daily Art Dose

Kay did a fantastic mini-masterpiece for the ‘behold’ prompt.

I love Marilyn’s take on the ‘number’ prompt. She couldn’t pick just one she said.

Carol’s ‘scribble’ is a perfect example of the daily art dose.

February Challenge

Liz focused on houses for her challenge. I really like this fairy house.

In this last of her series, Anne Lou gives us some wisdom to live your life by: When in doubt wear red.

Penelope is doing a Song Circle Series for her challenge. I love this one; it is so pretty.

Book Club

Dianne used a favorite sentence in our book as the journaling on her page. I really like the feel of this one.

Other Stuff

We’ve also had downloadable collage sheets, a new set of BeMused cards, Mythical Mist Art papers, the Art District Grab Bag, and, of course, the zine. Whew.

Last note, there is an incredible font bundle available in the shop until Monday. Do. Not. Miss. It.

Want to get in on the fun? Join the Art Journal Emporium: tours begin monthly. As always, feel free to tag (or search for) art on social media with #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose.

That’s it for February, we’re looking ahead to a marvelous March in the Emporium!

Art Journal Emporium News February 24 2015, 0 Comments

We’re coming up on the end of the month, so I decided to check out social media for our tags (#artjournalemporium & #thedailyartdose) to see what wonders could be found…

Mindy did this fabulous mixed media collage; I really like the blended colors.

Kay’s Daily Art Dose of ‘window’ gives me the hope of spring. Very important in the midst of winter!

I love this before and after picture of Balinda’s flowers before and after with a white journal pen. Just one example of how one little thing can have a huge impact.

I couldn’t pass up Shari’s ‘be awesome’ ATC. LOVE it!

Finally, I love this ATC by Dianne. It’s gorgeous!

Take a look at the rest of our works of art on social media! Better yet, come and join us in the Emporium.

See you soon!

Art Journal Emporium – Week in Review #7 February 21 2015, 0 Comments

February is spinning by. As we get closer to the end of the month, I wanted to send out a quick reminder for members of the Emporium to download the printables and freebies before the end of the month. Speaking of them, aren’t those Stitchy Hearts incredible?

February Challenge

Have I mentioned that I love the challenge this month?

Cindy’s hearts take on the challenge is really pretty. I love all the different papers.

Sticking with the heart theme, this layout done by Jan is simple, but striking. I like that she used stripes of color that match the bird across the letter.

The Swaps

Totally excited to get mine finished and sent out. Anyone done yet?

The Daily Art Dose

10 minutes of art a day…

Kay’s Music Theory is a fantastic mini-masterpiece.

We get two works of art for one in these ATCs done by Liz.

That’s it for this week.  Remember that if you want to see more of our art, check social media with the tags #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose.

Art Journal Emporium News February 17 2015, 0 Comments

I hope your part of the world is warm and cozy!

We are just over half way through the month and the Emporium Art Explorers are making some fantastic art. To see more art than what is sampled here join the Emporium or check out our tags on social media (#artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose).

Book Club

It’s really inspiring to read how just one quote from the book can change the whole way people look at their art or how the book helped them make the leap out of their art comfort zone.

Cathy sketched this beauty in her journal.

Swaps

No sneak peeks at the swaps we are doing, but from the chatter I hear, the artists are all working diligently on their submissions.

The Daily Art Dose

I just love checking out these mini-masterpieces!

Marilyn’s zentangles are always great, but this one is amazing.

Liz has some amazing backgrounds going on in these ATCs.

February Challenge

I cannot say enough about the fantastic art I’ve been seeing during this challenge.  Here are just a few to give you a glimpse of what we are doing.

Tracy’s challenge is doing houses. I LOVE that she incorporated her challenge into the background for a journal page.

Amy’s doing heart postcards.

Kay took the challenge to heart and even told us her process in this lovely landscape.

So. Much. Awesome. But I can’t post everything.

Check back on Friday for more amazing art. As always, check on social media for more of our art.

Art Journal Emporium - Week in Review #6 February 13 2015, 0 Comments

Hold on a second, I need to shake some glitter off of me. February just EXPLODED with art and inspiration.

Sweet Treats

Members of the Emporium are being treated royally this Valentine’s weekend with some incredible offers on workshops. Now is your chance to catch up on past years of the caravan or any other workshop you might have missed.

Swaps Announced

In case you missed it! Emporium members are invited to join ATC and postcard swaps. I’m super excited. Are you joining?

BeMused Cards, Grab Bag, and Collage…oh my!

February’s collage sheets and video are up. I’m looking forward to seeing what the art explorers in the Emporium create! I also wanted to give you a quick reminder that the BeMused cards and some of the collage scatters from January have some Valentine themes to them so they would be good to use on projects this month. And, finally, have you seen the grab bag stuff?  It’s available in the shop now and it is fantastic!

The Daily Art Dose

This section of the Emporium never fails to brighten my day (no matter how much homework I have).

Today’s prompt of ‘hug’ is done spectacularly by Kay.

Marilyn’s cute pig made me smile and I hope it makes you smile too.

February Challenge

There is just too much awesomeness going around in this classroom.

Anne Lou is focusing on red shoes for her challenge. I love the watercolor look to her layout.

Fonda has turned to blue for her inspiration. The chalk marker here looks great.

And Cindy is doing hearts. I could not pass up that cute little owl.

Art Journal Emporium Book Club

Balinda’s illustrated quote is fantastic. She “remembered to let go of perfection and just love the journey.” Well, we all love the face too.

This page by Liz reminds us that art can be everywhere and everything, even “just memory keepers.”

That’s it for this week. Don’t forget to tag your art with #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose when you share it on social media. We’ll see you here again next week!

Inspiration for art is everywhere. Here's some from the Art Journal Emporium.

Book Club

We are in Exploration #5 now and I’m anxiously waiting to see what art-spired works will show up in the classroom.

Dianne’s page gives us a great mantra to art by.

The Daily Art Dose

One word challenges can sometimes be harder than you would think, but these takes on the challenges are fantastic.

Liz did her #thedailyartdose on ATC cards. Quick. Easy. Awesome.

I couldn’t pass up adding Marilyn’s ‘clarity’ tangle. The Sherlock fan in me would not allow it.

February’s Tangerine Telescope

Have you gotten yours yet? I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

February Challenge

Challenge issued…and…go.

I love Cindy’s valentine take on the challenge.

Lou Ann is going for a more home-y approach that is absolutely gorgeous.

The Patchwork Heart—ah, there is something so perfect and resilient about this work by Jan.

Artist Trading Card Project

This is technically a project from last month, but it is still going strong.

Kay’s atc is simple and all the better for it! I love the word strips and shadow effects.

Turmoil is the word of the day for Karon and her ATC really reflects it.

Don’t forget to check back…new inspiration is on the shelves all the time!

Post your inspired art on social media with the tags #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose so we can all see them too!

Art Journal Emporium - Week in Review #5 February 06 2015, 0 Comments

Welcome to February! Love is in the air and thoughts of springtime are just around the corner...

It is a new month but the members of the Art Journal Emporium are still going strong. Several members are still working on the book club prompts and February has brought us a whole new Daily Art Dose mini-inspirations. Best of all, the new Grab Bag for February was released today. Today only you can get it for just $6.

As always, if you want to see more of our work, check out the classrooms in the Emporium or look on social media with the tags: #artjournalemporim and #thedailyartdose.

Book Club

There have recently been some awe-inspiring works of art posted in the book club.

Kay did this amazing elephant by drawing over her journaled words. She says there is “lots of writing over the top going the other way, upside down, backwards, messy.” Fantastic, I say. Proof that there is no reason to hide your art with deep personal journaling.

Dianne’s page is a real inspiration to just get out there and start...

The Daily Art Dose

In this art-spiration clinic, we use one word mini prompts to make mini-masterpieces.

Marilyn created this beauty from the prompt ‘dramatize.’

Kay’s dedicated this month to working on lettering, not that she needs practice from these examples.

ATC’s and other stuff

Ildi made this great card showing how many of us are working on ATC’s this year.

Tracy took the ATC idea a step further and made a mini journaling card.

I love this mixed media piece by Mindy. It is perfect for February!

That’s it for this week but be sure to check back next week when we will have even more amazing art to share.

Art Journal Emporium - Month in Review {January 2015} January 31 2015, 0 Comments

Since the month ended this weekend, I saved my weekly review for a day so I could cover the entire month of the Art Journal Emporium.  It has been a whirlwind month, hasn't it?  There's been so much inspiration flowing, projects to work on, printables and downloadables...Oh my!

What we worked on:

  • The Daily Art Dose - 10 minute daily inspirations for bringing more art into your daily life.

Liz made this one for the word 'instrument.'

And I LOVE this take on 'pretend' from Crystal.

  • The January Book Club - This book has not only been a fantastic read, but a great source of inspiration and motivation for many of the Emporium members.

Kay did this mini-masterpiece in the style of Susan Branch.

This work by Jenny takes one of the beginning challenges of our book club and just knocks it out of the park.

  • The Tangerine Telescope Zine made its debut much to the delight of the collective Emporium.
  • ATC: Words to Live by Project - Such amazing work was done on this idea. Check out our other blog posts for some additional highlights as well.

I really like this simple, but interesting ATC that  Kay made.  It uses Tangie's Melt Into Springs kit.

Marilyn made this recycled ATC with nothing but bits of otherwise trash paper and washi tape! Pretty awesome way to recycle if you ask me.

  • Get Out of that Funk and Back into Art - Sometimes the art just doesn't flow. This add-on artspiration has some useful tips to unblocking your creative flow.

Cathy made this 'unFunked' work of art for her journal.

  • Downloads - The shelves of the Emporium just keep filling up with new goodies to download. We've had collage sheets, a gorgeous little set of digital scatters, a preview page for a new line of templates (how cool is that?!?) and a new set of BeMused cards!

What a fantastic way to start the year! I can't wait to see what is in store for us next month.

Been inspired by the work you see here? Join the Emporium for February.

Welcome back to the Emporium!

We are in the home stretch for January. If you haven’t downloaded the collage sheets yet, make sure that you do before the end of the month.

What we are creating

The ATC project has really taken off. Everyone has put their own spin on the cards and that. Is. Fantastic.

Fonda was really getting into the ATC spirit this day…

Marilyn made this card (front and back shown) with just pieces of recycled ephemera.  Yes, that is a fancy term for trash. I love that the card is simple, but still has a powerful message.

I ‘love’ the texture on Carolyn’s card!

Art explorers are also still creating fantastic mini-masterpieces in The Daily Art Dose.

Crystal did this one with a colossal prompt.

I had to add another of Crystal’s because I absolutely love her little green doll. It makes me want to go make one myself. Here's the kit if you want to make one.

Lastly, Marilyn was artspired by the word demonstrate.

That’s all for today. Don’t forget to tag the images you post on social media with #artjournalemporium and #thedailyartdose!
