Art Journal Pockets - May Inspiration May 11 2016, 0 Comments

This month’s themes are Bugs/Insects and Complimentary Colors.  Tangie Baxter & CO has created some very cute freebie sheets this month.  In fact, you will find 3 different sheets to start your Art Journal Pocket.  Complimentary Colors #157, Complimentary Colors #158 and TBBugs/Insects are all part of this month's deliveries in the Art Journal Pockets classroom.  I want to share a couple of the Bug/Insect Art Journal Pockets that are in the Gallery.

Heidi used TB #158 and TB Insects to make her Art Journal Page.  She, also, used ink, stamps, markers and glitter glue to complete her page.

Ann created her Art Journal Pocket using Tangie's TB #103 and her Quickutz.  I love the “Don’t Bug Me” bubble.  I love the colors on this page.

There is still plenty of time to join us in the classroom, we would love for you to join us.

Art Journal Pockets Inspiration April 26 2016, 0 Comments

Spring has sprung.  Some a little later than others but it looks like we have officially begun to warm up.  Riding by the home improvement stores, I see lots of people collecting their garden goodies.  Flowers, pots, garden ornaments and most importantly bird houses.

I have always loved bird houses and I try to make it a point to hang one or two by spring. This year the birds kinda beat me to it.  I have one nest in a wall mounted fountain and several in gutter catches.  Oh yes, one is in the newspaper catch under the mailbox.  So I decided this month I would create a sweet page that was so easy to do.  It's colorful and would make a great canvas print or screen saver.

I first drew rectangles for the houses and triangles for the roofs.  Then added some poles to hold them up.  Once I laid out where the houses where I used brushes from the following Tangie and Rebecca Pages.  To create the bird houses and floral garden.  I added the word SPRING across the top with Ephemera Alpha brushes.  Then I created a floral garden below the houses with Rebecca Tansy Flowers and Splatter overlays Floral designs.  Popped in a few birds with Tweet Sweet Stamp.  I did my design digitally, but it will work just as well with printouts. Have fun creating your own Spring Garden.

Art Journal Pockets Monthly Challenge April 12 2016, 0 Comments

Our challenge themes this month fit very nicely together - Watercolors and Music.

Ann took both of this month’s free sheets and combined them into one Art Journal Pocket sheet.  She cut the Music sheet apart, then glued it onto the Watercolor sheet.  The results are stunning.

For the watercolor challenge, Pam used the background from Tangie's June Paper Play 3. She embellished the page with goodies of splatters and word art from Call of the Gypsies, Shine: You Are Divine, Sweet Harmony and washi tape from the 2016 Caravan January Planner (part of the goodies in the Art Journal Emporium).  Another beautiful Art Journal Pocket.

Art Journal Pockets - Crafting and the Environment March 22 2016, 9 Comments

Let's talk about Crafting and The Environment

The big conversation about Climate and change and the Environment is all around.  We as crafters can do our part by recycling and using products that are environmentally safe.  One such product is Citra-Sol.  I love using this for a multitude of things. It's classified a degreaser but it's great for making transfers, cleaning brushes and known best for creating awesome craft papers from old National Geographic magazines. There is something about National Geographic's printing process that works well with this product.  A perfect way to help keep it green.  Citra-Sol can be purchased at many different stores and even on-line.  So next time you need a cool background try Citra-Sol.

Art Journal Pockets - March Challenge March 15 2016, 0 Comments

This month’s challenges are Doodles and Lucky.  The team has been very creative this month and have interchanged some of the free sheets included on the Free Art Journal Pockets Workshop.  There might be a leprechaun changing the challenge pages at night when we are asleep.   Make sure you check out the original free pages to see what I mean.  You can find the "Doodles" and "Lucky" in the Challenge classrooms.

Doodles Challenge:

Annette used the “Lucky” free sheet and changed it into the “Doodle” challenge by using a black sharpie and acrylic markers.  Her doodles make the words pop off of the page.

Lucky Challenge:

Zeneva took the “Doodle” free sheet and changed it for the “Lucky” challenge.

Zeneva's credits: Rebecca McMeen's BeetrisTangie Baxter's Up Up & Away and AJP Starter Kit, The Nifty Pixel's Cosmo Bloom (flower) and It's The Little Things (leaves).

I told you we might have a leprechaun visiting Art Journal Pockets this month.

Art Journal Pockets - Happy BDay March 11 2016, 0 Comments

My sister and niece both have birthdays in March, right around St. Patrick’s Day, so I thought it would be nice to send them a set of Art Journal Pockets.  My sister is an art teacher and my niece loves anything artistic as well so this will make a great gift for both!

Materials:

  • Tangie Baxter & Co. AJP Sheet No. TB153
  • Paper Cutter
  • Alphabet Stickers
  • Washi Tape
  • Random bits and bobs from your stash

First, I chose the beautiful AJP sheet TB153 which is a free download included in the Art Journal Pockets Workshop which is also free.  It has lovely patterns and colors to work with and green represents March and spring.  Second, I cut the pieces and arranged them in a way that looked good to me.  Aren’t they beautiful?

Next, I raided my stash to find some things that would go well with the patterns and colors on the AJPs.  I chose gold letters and embellishments, some blue and some green embellishments.  Then, I arranged the letters on the AJPs.  Beautiful!

After that, I auditioned each embellishment on the AJPs to see how I wanted them organized.  I took the pieces that made the cut and decided to add some washi tape. Here are what my Art Journal Pockets look like after they are arranged.  I just love the colors!

Art Journal Pocket Inspiration March 01 2016, 6 Comments

There has been a lot of wonderful Art Journal Pockets in the February challenge classroom.  I thought I would share a couple of them with everyone.

Monochrome Challenge

Heidi used the free sheet from Tangie Baxter, included in the free Art Journal Pockets Workshop. She used an ink pad, paints, markers, stamps and sprayed the page with gold glimmer mist.  The words just jump off of the page.  She did a wonderful job.

Fairy Tales Challenge

The second challenge this month was Fairy Tales.  Everyone did a great job with their interpretation of this challenge.  Again, using an Art Journal Pocket sheet that is included in the free Art Journal Pockets Workshop.

Here is Maria’s challenge sheet, she chose “Little Red Riding Hood”.  I love the wolf.

She used the Tangie Baxter’s Art Journal Caravan™ 2013 {November Collection} which featured Germany to create the background.  She printed the background out and embellished the cards with gold German scrap.  I think it turned out amazing.

We would love for you to come and play in the classroom with us in March.  Our themes are Doodles and Lucky.  We will have the free background sheets loaded in the Challenge section by March 1, but you don’t have to use our sheets you can play along with any of  Tangie’s products.
