December TB&CO Grab Bag December 11 2015, 1 Comment

Happy December!  This month the grab bag features the color palette dark red and medium green. I was inspired to create a red page and a green page. With the amazing snowflakes, I just had to make Ruby snowflakes in a snowy landscape. Here are two digitally created pages and the how to’s of creating a mixed-media page. Enjoy!

Ruby’s Winter Wonderland

Evergreen Glad Tidings

MIXED-MEDIA CREATION

Using a combination of digital elements created a focal piece and bits and pieces from the Grab Bag along with various art mediums, created a mixed-media journal page.

Here’s how:

  1. Paint a background with a mixture of green acrylic paint, glitter paint and Golden® acrylic glazing liquid.  Dry.
  2. Mix gesso with glitter paint and platinum acrylic paint.  Swirl onto the lower section of page.
  3. Sprinkle glitter on wet gesso.  Dry (overnight).
  4. Digitally create Ruby snowflakes.
    1. Enlarge snowflake, reduce size of Ruby so she fits inside snowflake.  Make at least three.
    2. Print so that size of each snowflake is approximately 2” X 2” (I printed on textured paper for more texture)
    3. Cut out each snowflake.
  5. Glue snowflakes on page.
  6. Either cut out a tree shape from glittery paper or cut out a christmas tree from a magazine or card. Glue into “snow” drifts.
  7. Splatter page with white paint.
  8. Add text or journaling.

December Grab Bag - Festive Christmas Tags Project December 10 2015, 1 Comment

Hello, let me introduce myself, my name is Katrina Rollings. I am a member of the TB&CO crew. I live in the southwest of England with my wonderful husband and very cute little parrot called Dexter who loves to come up into my craft room with me and watch me craft.

I love my Art Journaling, always mixed media cut and paste, but I also love to use my digital kits in all sorts of other ways too. As I am completely addicted to my crafting, if I can make something myself I like to give it a try. One of the things I like to make for my family and friends at Christmas are individual tags for their presents.

So for my project today I have made 4 different Christmas tags using this month's bundle - Tangie's Evergreen Kit (part of this month’s grab bag.  Grab Bags are only available for a limited time once a month and are priced on a sliding scale, so act fast for the best deal!  For more information visit TB&CO Grab Bags.)  I also used Tangie’s Christmastime Kit.

For all my tags I used a standard shipping tag as the base but you can use whatever you have on hand or just cut a tag shape out of card. I prised off the hole reinforcers that come on the shipping tags and saved them for later along with the piece of string.

Rudolf Tag:

  • Print & cover the tag with Tangie’s Evergreen Kit paper 5.
  • Print, cut out and adhere the Rudolf die cut, red striped ribbon, thin red bow,  Merry Christmas swag, washi tape and button from the Christmastime Kit on the tag.
  • Put the hole reinforcer back on the tag.
  • Add some ink around the edges, some Neocolour II crayon and a touch of glitter, well it is Christmas!
  • Then Rudolf just has to have a bright red sticky gem for his nose.

Father Christmas Tag:

  • Print & cover shipping tag with the small green spot paper from the Christmastime Kit, paper 4.
  • Print & cut out Father Christmas, Merry Christmas swag, Ho Ho Ho boarder and tied ribbon from the Christmastime Kit.
  • Put the hole reinforcer back on the tag.
  • Add some ink around the edges, some Neocolour II crayon and a touch of glitter.
  • Add a shiny gem on the end of his hat.

Bauble Tag:

  • Print & cover shipping tag with the red paper from the Christmastime Kit, paper 1.
  • Print & cut out vintage baubles from the Evergreen kit.
  • Put the hole reinforcer back on the tag.
  • Add some ink around the edges, some Neocolour II crayon and a touch of glitter.

Christmas Tree Tag :

  • Print & cover shipping tag with paper from the Christmastime Kit, paper 7.
  • Print & cut out trees also from the Christmastime Kit.
  • Print & cut out “Christmas” and “Tree" from the Evergreen Kit.
  • To spell “oh” print out the Ho Ho Ho border from the Christmastime Kit then cut and piece the letters to reform “oh”.
  • Put the hole reinforcer back on the tag.
  • Add some ink around the edges, some Neocolour II crayon and a touch of glitter.
  • Add a silver star to the top of one of the trees.

Well those are my Festive Christmas Tags. I hope you enjoy my project and will giving them a try yourself. They would be a great project to do with children too.

Have a very Happy Christmas,

love Katrina

November TB&CO Grab Bag November 13 2015, 1 Comment

A little about me: my name is Jan and I’m an aspiring mixed-media artist. I had scrapbooked until most of the scrapbook stores shut down (I loved touching products and mixing up all the bits and pieces). I discovered digital scrapbooking through Somerset Digital Studio magazine and eventually Tangie Baxter’s Art Journal Caravan, and this kept me engaged. But I still missed the touching and getting my hands onto products. Thanks again to Tangie Baxter’s on site workshops, I discovered mixed-media. The monthly Art Journal Emporium's (AJE) Grab Bags contain enough papers and ephemera along with an art doll to create not only lots of digitally created pages, but also fodder for creating mixed-media pages.  Each month I will show you a page created digitally and the how to’s of creating a mixed-media page. Enjoy!

“Birds of the Grove.”

MIXED-MEDIA CREATION

Using a combination of digital elements created a focal piece and bits and pieces from the Grab Bag along with various art mediums, created a mixed-media journal page.

Here’s how:

  1. Digitally enhanced Tansy and placed her on an ostrich (Rebecca McMeen’s Parker).
  2. Printed Tansy/Ostrich and a large rose (laser print so that ink doesn’t – alternative print on an inkjet printer and spray with a fixative).
  3. Cut out the Tansy/Ostrich and Rose (or tear if you want that effect).
  4. Watercolor background on a page (used 2 colors [Calypso Teal and Postbox Red] of Dylusions ink spray – or use your favorite watercolors, Caran d’Ache Crayons.
  5. 2-3 sprays of each color on the page, dip brush in water and spread color over page.  Used bright colors so that the rose will stand out. Dry.
  6. Brayered Golden Zinc White over page to tone down.
  7. Glued rose on page leaving room at bottom for journaling/quote.
  8. Glued Tansy/Ostrich on top of rose.
  9. Outlined Tansy with black Uniball Signo pen, Ostrich with gold Uniball Signo pen and rose with dark pink Sharpie.
  10. With a pencil, drew lines for the journaling/quote.  Printed quote, using black Micron 008.
  11. Doodled – separated lines of the quote with dots, lines on rose, Tansy and ostrich.
  12. Added round paint splotches to bottom of rose using Golden Fluid Acrylic Phthalo Green and Quinacridone Magenta (colors to complement the background).
  13. Brushed Faber Castell Glaze over Tansy/Ostrich.
  14. Made a gold circle (using Gold Glitter Paint – painted a circle of paint on a palette and let dry).
  15. Peeled circle off palette and glued onto the empty space of the page.
“Blessed is the Influence”

These products were part of TB&CO Grab Bag #15 {November 2015} which is now available as separate kits: Tangie’s Sweet Harmony and Rebecca’s Tansy.
